The Supervisory Board of FORATOM, the Brussels-based umbrella organisation of atomic fora, has followed the proposal of the Executive Committee and today elected Dr. Peter HAUG from Bonn as new Secretary General. He succeeds Dr. Wolf-J. Schmidt-Küster who is going to retire on July 31 of this year.
Until a successor for Dr. Haug is found, he will maintain his functions as General Manager of the German Atomic Forum in Berlin/Bonn as well as Managing Director of the German Nuclear Society.
After reading nuclear physics at the Frankfurt/Main and Munich universities, Dr. Haug started out as project manager in a Franco-German telecommunications satellite project. He then went on to become the senior technical manager of a medium-sized production company, followed by a post as deputy managing director of a consultancy. In 1976, he became Managing Director of the German Atomic Forum, the German Nuclear Society, and later on also of the Informationskreis Kernenergie.
